Turning old into green: revitalisation of approx. 10,000 sq m in Berlin-Lichtenberg

Berlin, 07th March 2023. Sector Seven Investors is revitalising eight former workers’ houses at Herzbergstrasse 125-126A in Berlin’s Lichtenberg district. After lying vacant for more than 20 years, the buildings with around 10,000 sq m of gross floor area beside the regionally renowned Dong Xuan Center Asian supermarket are being revitalised.

Sebastian Blecke, Managing Director of Sector7 states: “In our latest project in Herzbergstrasse, we see significant potential in repositioning the entire property. By adopting a contemporary and sustainable use concept combined with the potential for redensification by adding extra floors to the existing buildings, we want to actively contribute to the improvement in city life in a changing environment.”

The existing buildings were originally built as workers’ houses for the VEB Elektrokohle Lichtenberg plant. The total floor area of approx. 9,479 sq m is distributed over three above-ground floors and offers potential for further redensification. By approaching this as a redevelopment that is as resource- and therefore climate-friendly as possible, the existing buildings will be reinforced and carefully stripped out, and the ground floor will be opened up to the street and courtyard.

The revitalisation project is located in a bustling, up-and-coming community in Berlin-Lichtenberg, an area that in the past has attracted purveyors of art and culture, including “San Gimignano Lichtenberg”.
